Meet Your Instructor

Phil Zito, CEO Smart Buildings Academy

I'm Phil Zito. I created Smart Buildings Academy, formerly Building Automation Monthly, in 2012 to share knowledge with fellow BAS professionals. I saw a gap in training was being done across the industry. I held various BAS roles at Johnson Controls including:

► Technical Integration Program Manager
► Technology Ecosystem Manager
► Project Development Engineer- Analytics
► Operations Manager
► Service Technician

Look, I know what it feels like to come home, completely zapped after spending all day working on a 140-degree roof. You feel drained, you know you need to do something to get ahead, but you just can’t summon the energy. I understand how challenging it can be to become the highly efficient and effective BAS professionals you know you can be while juggling your responsibilities. That's why I created SBA to make it as easy as possible for you. Our courses run at YOUR pace, but we also offer biweekly office hours in case you need some help with the material so you can stay on track through completion. You've got this! And we're here to help you succeed.

What Students Are Saying

Im a chiller/service technician and ive always been really curious about controls. a few guys have thought me a few things in the field but its hard for me to understand a few things; especially on Niagara. taking this course helped me understand all the things that were explained to me, i can now walk to a controls related issue with tridium with no issue and i know what im seeing and what to look for. if theres an issue i can explain an issue better to my superviror so i can get the appropiate answer and get the customer going

Those that wish to learn the Niagara platform, this is the class! Phil takes you from nothing to learning graphics, creating stations and platforms. You come out really confident after the class.

I was able to use this course, and refer back to it, while successfully completing an actual project in the field. I had been away from Niagara for a few years and this course was perfect for getting me back up to speed quickly. Thanks!

What Students Are Saying

Well simply put I've been in the BAS Field for 10 years and wanted to move into higher role which the next open opportunity was an BAS Estimator. Took this course and landed an interview and was given the position as what I learned in this course had given me the skills to start working in the position right away.

BAS Estimator
Well put together. I definitely learned somethings and it opened my eyes to other things I still need to learn.
